"Snelling RR: 2/23/2013:
Snelling was my first road race as a Cat 3. I did not race
much at all last year and over the past couple of months have been
working hard to gain back my racing fitness. I have never been a strong
road racer...I am more of a crit and mtn bike racer. I love to road
race and have had numerous top 10 finishes...as a 4!
My
goal for Snelling was to finish with the pack and a top 10 would be
nice...the race started pretty slow...it was interesting to sit in and
observe the games being played out mostly by the dots (Metromint). The
attacks started on the backside and kept going until the right turn to
pass through the finish area and then we continued on our 2nd lap...2nd
lap was frustrating as we were neutralized several times for the men's
field to
pass by...once the racing began I was feeling good and in the mix of
things staying in the top 10...once again the attacks began on the
backside and continued to the right turn to pass through the finish
area...3rd lap...I could feel the fatigue setting in and the fact that I
had not eaten was taking affect...I stayed in with the group and did a
little pulling. The attacks started a little sooner...then once we
turned right into the few rollers someone launched a monster attack and
we were flying...once we hit the first hill the group kicked again!
this is where I red-lined and a gap just big enough with the wind spit
me out...:-( I chased my last lap and finished 22nd out of 29 starters.
I was humbled and hoped to finish better, but I did have a fun time.
Lesson learned...do not put your food in your back pocket under your
vest...place it so you can access it...I think better calorie and food
intake would have helped me during
the later attacks, however...my engine still needs some work and I am
look forward to racing more this year.
Rockville CX: 2/24/2013:
Always
fun, but was definitely feeling yesterday....I won...because I was the
only girl in the B's...and boy was I glad for that today:-) I love
supporting this event and will go next Sunday as well. I was invited to
go with a group to Rockville post race, but I was just too tired...
Next
event is the Madera Stage Race the weekend of 3/9 and 10. This will be
a training adventure all to help me with Sea Otter...I will be grouped
with the P/1/2's for the crit and 70 mile road race...the crit i am not
so worried about, but the road race will be a long and lonely 70 miles. I
am not happy about the fact that the 3's do not have their own
race...
That's it til next time! -Leslie"
